Never been to Summer RosettaCon? Here are the basics
Conference flow
Summer RosettaCon is remote in the Cascade Mountains. You're captive to science for four days - isn't it amazing!
RosettaCon is the place to build community and amazing science. Meet new people, make new friends. This is accomplished by time together and discussion of science in a relaxed setting. The conference is organized to maximize these opportunities.
The days are filled in the classic conference style: with talks and coffee. There are two parallel talk tracks with availability to switch mid-session. New this year is the self-organization of sessions into panels. See more information below.
The evenings have a keynote talk, followed by poster sessions. These go until you’ve run out of energy to talk near a poster, and move that conversation to the late night social spot.
Meals are eaten together: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Discuss the talks you're excited about, the work that you’re doing and the cool science you just saw in that talk. Find your next postdoc or new hire.
The last day of the conference, August 7th, is for hiking. Continue to discuss energy landscapes and free energy barriers in the natural landscapes of the Cascade Mountains. Don’t forget your hiking poles (and not a broken one, either).
What’s included?
In brief.. Science, Food, Friends. And maybe lodging.
Hotel
Lodging, if it's included in your ticket, is in a shared room with individual beds. If you purchase a book-your-own-room ticket - you can book at Suncadia or nearby. If your room is included (e.g., as a Rosetta Commons Lab member), please reach out using the Contact Us form to discuss needs for private accommodations.
Check-in at Suncadia starts at 4:00 PM in the Lodge.
Hotel is included for all Rosetta Commons Member Labs.
Food
Food is provided from dinner at Suncadia on August 4th until your sack lunch is eaten on the August 7th hike. We do our best to accommodate all dietary restrictions disclosed during registration. Reach out to preview the menu if you might need to bring along your own supplements.
Community
There are at least thirty hours of scientific content to be had across two-and-a-half days at Suncadia. There will be plenty of time to network over snacks and beverages as well.
Bring your swimsuit, your biking shorts, or other gear to enjoy the activities at Suncadia on your own.
Virtual Registration
Virtual registration includes the following:
- Access to virtual sessions: Live streaming of keynote talks, workshops, and other sessions.
- Digital materials: Access to digital copies of conference materials, such as programs, poster abstracts, job postings, attendee lists, and other resources.
- On-demand access: Access to session recordings after the event.
- Event app access: Login credentials to the event's virtual platform Nunify for virtual participation.
- Networking opportunities: Virtual networking opportunities through the Nunify event app that allows you to connect with other attendees.
Panels, Talks, and Posters
You did some science - tell us about it!
Scientific Panels
In past Summer RosettaCons the science program has been assembled through abstract submission, review, and thematic organization. As the community grows, having high-quality trainee-focused talks that are thematically organized is increasingly challenging.
A format used at other conferences is to request community-submitted thematic panels that allow for a common contextual introduction and several related perspectives on a topic.
For SRC25, we will use a "request for panel" system for the main scientific program.
See the Scientific Panels page for information on submission format, examples, a template, and Q&A.
Talk Abstracts
Individual talk abstracts will be accepted during registration. We'll have a location to indicate if you've also submitted as part of a scientific panel.
Conference participants that submit talk/poster abstracts may be asked to join or form a panel.
Posters
Presenting a poster at RosettaCon is the default experience. Not everyone wishes to be on stage, but you have done great work recently, and the community should hear about it. Poster details can be found on the Conference Experience page.
All trainees must present their work as either a talk or a poster. Rosetta Commons subsidizes conference costs, and the sharing of scientific content is the final cost of your registration.

Hikes
RosettaCon ends with a day of hiking in the Cascade Mountains on the way back to Seattle. Enjoy some time with epic views and more science talk.
There will be short, medium, and long hikes. Some even use these excursions to jump into a multi-day backpacking trip. A sack lunch will be provided before leaving Suncadia, and shuttles will take you to the hike and then back to Seattle/SEATAC.
Short hikes: Spend a few hours in the mountains on a leisurely stroll with friends, new and old. After a quick commune with nature, find yourself back in Seattle for a late-afternoon or evening hike.
Medium hikes: a distance of ~4-6 miles and taking 4-5 hours, a medium hike will bring you to spectacular views or glacier-filled lakes. Spend most of the day out in nature, but be back in Seattle for dinner and a late flight.
The Long Hike: best experienced by seasoned hikers - and adventurous spirits. The Long Hike is a classic in RosettaCon lore, filled with scrambling, snow fields, and sudden storms. Be a part of the lore, but be sure to come prepared with proper equipment.
Don't forget your hiking poles!
